Garage Painting and Floor Coating
- Interior Garage Painting: Many new home builders will leave garage walls unfinished which means it's the homeowner's job to paint them. Some homeowners don't mind this, while others prefer a more finished appearance. For garage walls, we always recommend "Emerald" paint by Sherwin Williams because of how well it holds up to scratches and dings. The higher the sheen of the paint (how shiny it is), the more resistant to it will be to scratches/ nicks and the more washable it will be.
- Garage Floor Coatings: There are a number of different floor coatings on the market, but for residential floor coatings, we recommend ShieldCrete's Garage Floor Epoxy. Although ShieldCrete isn't necessarily the most durable coating out there, it requires significantly less prep time prior to coating the floor. Other products on the market work well but require diamond grinding and acid etching the floor with muriatic acid (depending on the product).
- Exterior Garage Painting: Painting the exterior of a garage can be trickier than you think due to a number of factors: materials used to "side" garages (especially on historical homes) are usually not as high of quality as what was installed on the adjoining home, garages are are often damp and have moisture issues that affect the paint, and garages tend to be painted less often than homes meaning they require more work to bring up to par.
